A few essentials:

When you have decided to buy a house, you’ll have to apply for a residence permit. Applicable are forms EX 00 to EX 19. In most cases, form EX 15 will apply to the circumstances, which is a request for your NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjeros). Your NIE is your citizen service number as a foreigner. You’ll have to apply this permit for each of your family members moving to Catalunya; you will also need to do so when you to rent a house.

Evidently, you’ll be obligated to register as citizens of the municipality you’ve found residence in. Each of you will have to visit the town hall in person, with a copy of your passport and/or a copy of your NIE; again, referring to each of the family’s members.

To register for health care, you’ll have to contact the Seguridad Social. Health care in Spain is done through the national health insurance. When you are employed at a Spanish company, it is the company that will take care of your health insurance. When you’re self-employed, you are responsible for your own health insurance, which costs about 250€ a month, including your contribution to your retirement pension.

Your existing drivers license is required to be reformed to a Spanish license. To get this done, you’ll have to go to Trafico.
If you’re importing your car (no additional taxes), you’ll have to homologate the car at the ITV, which is the Spanish government run enterprise for periodic inspections of your car. Normally all modern cars already have a C.O.C. (certificate of conformity), which speeds up the procedure.

Depending on your activities, there will be other registrations and contracts. We’ll happily answer your questions.
